Wood
Heavy Duty Caster
Wood is the most common material used to make storage units. They are available in variable strength. There are three major categories of wood cabinets.
· Particleboard
· Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
· Plywood
Particleboard
It is the least expensive material. It is an engineered wood made up of sawdust, splinters, chips or shavings. It is made by binding all these things together with adhesive. Such boards are synthesized by extrusion or hot pressed. They are not resistant moisture. Due to this it is not suggested to use outside.
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
It has construction similarities with particleboard. It is made up of smaller wood fibers. It is very dense, smooth and heavy board. Paraffin wax is mixed with fibers that make it water resistant. This will enable it to stand with temporary moisture conditions. Modern MDF with premium resins is a good choice for garage storage cabinets in less humid environment. Decorative laminates can be added for premium look.
Plywood
It is manufactured with uneven layers of veneers (thin slices of wood). These layers are bonded strongly with adhesive in alternate grain pattern. This way a dimensionally strong panel is formed. It is suitable to use in high moist environment and can be easily used in exterior projects. It is lighter in weight as compared to particle board and MDF. It does not have smooth surface that's why it is necessary to cover with laminate in order to have properly finished look.
Resin (Plastic)
Number of different manufacturer provides storage units from plastic materials. It is completely resistant to moisture. But it can be discolored by chemicals and sunlight. It also does not stand with heavy garage equipments. Doors do not have latches and they get distorted with time.
Metal
Metal storage units are also available. They provide true high class look to garages. Modern cabinets are available with powdered coated finishes that are non perishable. Some manufacturer also adds heavy-duty casters that enable you to move them easily. You don't need to unpack them in case of shifting.
